Virtual Desktop Infrastructure in Boise, Idaho?

Thursday, October 29, 2009

What is VDI? VDI enables an organization to eliminate the need for each employee to have a separate PC. All the hard drive storage, processor functions, OS functions, etc. are served-up over a high-speed connection from a centralized server to a glorified monitor also known as a thin client. Each workstation functions virtually as if it had its own OS, desktop preferences, processor and storage.

This Podcast is a great start for anyone who is reading about this for the first time or is just beginning to research VDI.

The Major Advantages of VDI Technology are:

-Reduced hardware acquisition and maintenance costs
    -Longer life-span of desktop hardware
    -Greatly- reduced office power consumption
    -Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery compliant
    -Easy work-station provisioning
    -Increased employee productivity
    -Reduced desktop support issues
    -Increased IT department productivity

SolutionPro has begun the testing phase for VDI technology. Testing consists of an internal deployment as well as a proof-of-concept project with a major customer.

While we don’t have a specific timeline for an actual product launch, we feel VDI is an important product for our customers and we have spent the last year positioning ourselves to offer it.

Stay tuned for future announcements about a VDI product and don’t hesitate to ask your SolutionPro Account manager how a VDI solution might help your office.
