Data Center Lessons from AVATAR

Thursday, February 04, 2010

Or...Just an excuse to talk about the movie?  You Decide.

AVATAR is like crack- it boasts a 99% addiction rate upon the first usage. It's also a techie's dream.  It's techie crack.  So it will come as no surprise that SolutionPro employees have been talking about this movie.  In fact just about every aspect of the movie has been discussed in our office.  And to finally beat this dead horse one more time- some interesting information exists about the movie as it relates to data center design.  What demands are put on a data center to produce a movie with so much sensory sublimity?

What's In a Battery Monitoring System

Thursday, February 04, 2010

Well, actually quite a bit.
An in-depth look at why SolutionPro bets its future on batteries and why a system is only as good as its weakest link.

A well-known politician once said, “There are known knowns. These are the things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. These are the things we don’t know we don’t know.”

SolutionPro Featured Customer ITEX

Wednesday, January 06, 2010

ITEX is a business-to-business barter exchange. What the heck is that you say? In this economy it’s a darn good thing! And in any economy really. Why? It’s a way for small businesses to make money without spending cash. Here’s how it works. Let’s say I own a restaurant. I join the ITEX Trading Community and sell meals on trade. I get trade dollars in return. (1 trade dollar is equivalent to 1 US dollar.) These funds go into my trade bank account. I can then use those trade dollars to buy all kinds of things available from other businesses in the trading community. Such as: a trip to Mexico, dental care, advertising for my business, printing, jewelry for my wife, and so on. And when these new customers spend their trade dollars in my restaurant, they also bring with them cash-paying friends and business associates. I get trade dollars and new cash paying business! Pretty cool huh?

Tony Romano, owner of Marcello's Pasta Grill in Tempe, AZ says his traffic has increased 10% in the last month. New barter exchange clients also have led to catering jobs. "A lot of small businesses can't afford to take their employees out for a Christmas party, but they can barter it," he says. "I've booked two lawyers' offices and three dentists' holiday parties!"

Email Server Blacklist Monitoring

Wednesday, January 06, 2010

SolutionPro Sysadmins recently completed turn-up, and testing of a new email server blacklist monitoring system.  As the spammers continue to innovate, so do we.  The problem is these pirates of the internet highways don't need your machine anymore.  All they need is the name of your mail server.  Once they have that they can use it as a spoof.  So it appears to the entity that maintains these blacklists that your email server is the sender when, in fact, it  was not.  This can cause your server to be blacklisted, when in fact you never sent one piece of spam.  Here's how SolutionPro has helped...

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure in Boise, Idaho?

Thursday, October 29, 2009

What is VDI? VDI enables an organization to eliminate the need for each employee to have a separate PC. All the hard drive storage, processor functions, OS functions, etc. are served-up over a high-speed connection from a centralized server to a glorified monitor also known as a thin client. Each workstation functions virtually as if it had its own OS, desktop preferences, processor and storage.

This Podcast is a great start for anyone who is reading about this for the first time or is just beginning to research VDI.

SolutionPro Open House Showcases Idaho Data Center Services

Friday, September 04, 2009

Well...We did it again. The SolutionPro Team enjoyed another successful open house event.

If you didn't make this one-  you really missed out.  The great food catered by the most friendly folks at Chapala and the margarita machine-  ohhhh the margarita machine.  In my opinion that made the party.  But we can't forget all the wonderful SolutionPro customers who showed up- without them- we would have had to party by ourselves, and what fun is that?

If you want to be part of our open house next year, be sure and subscribe to our mailing list at the bottom of this post.
